Ju l 1 99 6 COSMOLOGICAL EXPERIMENTS IN CONDENSED MATTER SYSTEMS
نویسنده
چکیده
Topological defects are thought to be left behind by the cosmolog-ical phase transitions which occur as the universe expands and cools. Similar processes can be studied in the phase transitions which take place in the laboratory: " Cosmological " experiments in superfluid He 4 and in liquid crystals were carried out within the past few years, and their results shed a new light on the dynamics of the defect-formation process. The aim of this paper is to review the key ideas behind this cosmology-condensed matter connection and to propose new experiments which could probe heretofore unaddressed aspects of the topological defects formation process.

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We show that the Supernovae results, implying evidence for an accelerating Universe, may be closely related to the recent discovery of redshift dependence in the fine structure constant α. The link is a class of varying speed of light (VSL) theories which contain cosmological solutions similar to quintessence. During the radiation dominated epoch the cosmologi...

We discuss the equation of state of neutron stars in the dense interior considering hyperons and the possible onset of kaon condensation within the relativistic mean field model. We find that hyperons are favoured in dense matter and that their appearance make the existence of a kaon condensed phase quite unlikely. Implications for the recent measurements of kaons in heavy ion collisions at sub...

Shown are that the current notion of cosmological expansion is contradicted by the equivalence principle, and that the correct theory involves a fundamental principle of physical scale predicting the cosmological constant, planetary Hubble flow and all aspects of the deep space anomaly.

We note that in general there exist two basic aspects in any branch of physics, including cosmology-one dealing with the attributes of basic constituents and forces of nature, the other dealing with how structures arise from them and how they evolve. Current research in quantum and superstring cosmology is directed mainly towards the first aspect, even though a viable theory of the underlying i...

We describe a grid-based numerical method for 3D hydrody-namic cosmological simulations which is adaptive in space and time and combines the best features of higher order–accurate Godunov schemes for Eulerian hydrodynamics with adaptive particle–mesh methods for collision-less particles. The basis for our method is the structured adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) algorithm of Berger & Collela (198...
